Sound

All of our Speakers and Amplifiers

Live sound reinforcement is a major part of the services we provide to the WPI community, and it has been a integral part of club since we began acquiring sound equipment in the 70’s. Our large inventory of industry-standard equipment can accommodate whatever audio requirements a live production may present, from a “mic-on-a-stick” to large, demanding, and high-energy concerts. Whatever your audio needs may be, we have the equipment, the personnel, and the technical knowledge to assure that your event will be setup properly and will run smoothly.

Our inventory of speakers is exclusively EAW and is designed to be able to provide high-quality audio for a variety of different setups and venues, whether inside or outside. All our cabinets are powered by high end QSC amplifiers to provide the adequate amount of power needed for large event. Our main PA consists of 4 KF850’s. These touring workhorses are designed for high volume applications, and they are tri-amped in order to maximize our ability to tune for each show. These are paired with 4 SB1000’s to provide the low end required for a PA of this size. In order to give us the greatest flexibility out of our system, the entire PA is tuned with a pair of DBX Driverack’s. This gives us the ability to tune each driver individually and use flexible signal routing with delay lines or whatever is needed for complicated events. Every time we use the system, it tuned specifically for the room and the style of the performer.

For smaller shows, we have a selection of other EAW gear, each for its own application. Our main coffeehouse rigs are two separate pairs of LA325’s. These speakers are perfect for small bands and acoustics, and they will pleasantly fill a small venue very easily. Our monitor rig is extremely flexible for whatever your needs are. Our wedges are SM200iH’s, of which we own 3 pairs, but LA325’s and 215’s are also available upon request. We have the ability to provide up to 12 separate monitor mixes.

No sound system is complete without a number of mixing consoles. Whatever your needs, we can provide a board of the appropriate size. Our flagship analog console is an Allen and Heath GL4000. This large board not only has 40 channels of input, but it also can mix up to 10 auxiliary outputs, making it perfect for either front of house or monitor mixing applications. It is complemented by 2 racks of DBX EQ’s and compressors to ensure proper sound quality and volume. Our other main console is a Yamaha LS9. This board is completely digital, and it features 32 inputs and 16 outputs. In addition, it features compressors and 4 band parametric EQ’s on each input and output, which enables us to eliminate a large quantity of rack equipment without sacrificing sound quality. In addition to the wow factor of the fully automated and motorized faders, its recallable scene memory and mix levels enable us to save and reload entire shows, which makes is possible to sound check several bands in a row, and then simple recall their profile when they come on stage. The combination of these two large consoles enables us to provide a dedicated monitor console for large shows. We also have several smaller Allen and Heath consoles for events that do not require such a large number of inputs.

In addition to large and expensive pieces of our inventory, we have a number of snakes, power distribution systems, miles of cabling, and every small piece of equipment required to complete a sound reinforcement system. We have an huge assortment of dynamic and condenser microphones perfect for every application. If you need to capture a vocalist, a piano, or a full acoustic drum kit, we have a high quality microphone right for you. Our selections includes Shure, Sennheisser, AKG, and others. We have a full suite of 4 high end wireless microphones for your convenience, whether you require a handheld or a headset style, we can give you the mobility you need at your event.

This huge selection of equipment makes it possible for us provide high quality sound virtually anywhere on campus. We can accommodate demanding shows with professional equipment and technical knowledge. We are able to support even the busiest weekends of the year by providing up to 5 simultaneous live systems at once. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding the way we provide sound, and we would love to work with you to figure out how we can provide the best system for your application.
